Outfitting a Ford Transit High Roof

Roof height and wheelbase are two separate measurements

Ford Transit equipment is specified by both roof height and wheelbase, and both have to match. A high roof Transit takes taller shelving than a low or mid roof Transit, and a 148" extended wheelbase Transit takes longer runs than a standard 148". Equipment built for a low roof Transit will not fit a high roof Transit of the same wheelbase.

Most Ford Transit high roof upfits start with shelving on one or both walls and a bulkhead partition behind the cab. Ladder racks, flooring, and drawer storage are added from there depending on the trade. Common questions

Will low roof Transit equipment fit a high roof Transit?
No. Ford Transit shelving and partitions are built to a specific roof height, and a low roof or mid roof unit will not fit a high roof Transit. Bulkhead partitions in particular are cut to the roof profile and cannot be adapted.

What is the difference between a 148" and a 148" extended wheelbase Transit?
The 148" extended Ford Transit has a longer body behind the rear axle, which allows longer shelving runs. Some equipment fits both and the product name will say so; other parts are specific to one or the other.

Do I need a partition in a Ford Transit high roof?
A bulkhead partition separates the cargo area from the cab and keeps loose cargo from entering the front seats under braking. It is not required by law in most cases, but many fleets and insurers expect one on a work van.

Can I install Ford Transit shelving myself?
Yes, most Ford Transit shelving is designed for installation with basic hand tools and mounts to factory attachment points. Ranger Design shelving requires a vehicle-specific install kit that is purchased separately.
