Choosing a Truck Ladder Rack

A truck rack turns an open bed into usable carrying space for ladders, lumber, pipe, conduit, and building materials — without the cost of a trailer or the restriction of a shell. For contractors, it means more material on every trip and fewer return runs.

How to size your rack

Truck racks are matched to three measurements:

• Cab height — 22" or 24" for an open bed, 29" when running a cap
• Bed length — standard bed (about 6.5') or long bed (about 8')
• Cab style — regular, extended, or crew cab, which changes overall rack length

Overall rack lengths run from 150" to 182". A crew cab with a standard bed needs a different rack than a regular cab with a long bed, even on the same truck.

With a cap or without

If your truck has a cap or shell, you need a cap rack — typically the 29" height, which clears the cap and mounts to it rather than the bed rails. Without a cap, a standard 22" or 24" rack mounts directly to the bed.

Forklift loadable

Forklift-loadable configurations are reinforced so material can be loaded directly by forklift at a supply yard or jobsite — a real time saver when picking up lumber or drywall in bulk.

Can I use a rack with a truck cap?
Yes. Cap racks mount over and to the cap, and are typically the 29" height. Tell us your cap height when you order.

How much weight can a truck rack carry?

Can I install it myself?
Yes. All racks ship with mounting hardware and most install in a few hours. Professional installation is available.
