Choosing a Truck Rack

A truck rack turns an open bed into usable carrying space for ladders, lumber, pipe, conduit, and building materials — without the cost of a trailer or the restriction of a shell. For contractors, it means more material on every trip and fewer return runs.

Which category do I need?

• Full Size Truck Without Shell — F-150, F-250, F-350, Ram 1500–3500, Silverado, Sierra, Tundra, Titan with an open bed
• Full Size Truck With Shell — same trucks running a cap or shell, needing a rack that mounts over it
• Medium Truck With / Without Shell — mid-size pickups such as Ranger, Colorado, Canyon, Tacoma, Frontier
• Service Body Truck Rack — utility and service bodies with compartment sides
• Light Duty Truck Rack — lighter loads and occasional use
• Covered Body Truck Rack — enclosed and box-style bodies

How to size your rack

• Cab height — 22" or 24" for an open bed, 29" when running a cap
• Bed length — standard bed (about 6.5') or long bed (about 8')
• Cab style — regular, extended, or crew cab, which changes overall rack length

Overall rack lengths run from 150" to 182". A crew cab with a standard bed needs a different rack than a regular cab with a long bed, even on the same truck.

With a shell or without

If your truck has a cap or shell, you need a cap rack — typically the 29" height, which clears the shell and mounts to it rather than the bed rails. Without a shell, a standard 22" or 24" rack mounts directly to the bed.

Forklift loadable

Forklift-loadable configurations are reinforced so material can be loaded directly by forklift at a supply yard or jobsite — a real time saver when picking up lumber or drywall in bulk.

Beyond the trades

Truck racks are not only for contractors. They carry sporting equipment, bicycles, kayaks, and oversized luggage just as well — and save you from towing a trailer or fitting a shell.

Accessories

We stock ladder stops, conduit carriers, tie-downs, load stops, and mounting hardware to complete your setup. See our Truck Rack Accessories category.

Common questions

How much does a truck rack cost?
Holman Pro Rack systems generally run from about $1,700 to $2,100 depending on cab height, bed length, cab style, and whether the truck has a shell.

Will a rack fit my truck?
Racks are matched to cab height, bed length, and cab style rather than to a specific make and model, so most trucks are covered. Tell us what you drive and we'll confirm the right size.

Can I use a rack with a shell or cap?
Yes. Cap racks mount over and to the shell, and are typically the 29" height. Tell us your shell height when you order.

How much weight can a truck rack carry?
Capacity varies by configuration. Forklift-loadable models are reinforced for heavier material. Contact us for the rating on a specific rack.

Can I install it myself?
Yes. All racks ship with mounting hardware and most install in a few hours. Professional installation is available.

Do you offer fleet or volume pricing?
Yes. We offer volume discounts on fleet orders, and our Business Program is free to join and gives trade and fleet customers better pricing plus a dedicated account manager.
