Ranger Design Roof Rack Accessories: Rollers, Straps, and Ladder Clamps

The right roof rack accessories can make loading and securing ladders more convenient. For electricians, HVAC technicians, plumbers, and contractors, choosing compatible equipment helps turn a roof rack into a setup that supports the daily routine.

Rear rollers, ratchet straps, and ladder clamps serve different purposes. Here’s how these Ranger Design accessories compare, along with the fitment details to check before ordering.

Ranger Design 16-U0500 rear roller bar for compatible roof rack installations
The 16-U0500 rear roller is a discontinued accessory for specific rack configurations.

Rear Roller Bar: Assistance During Loading

A rear roller provides a rolling contact surface when moving a compatible ladder or long item onto a roof rack. It assists with loading; it does not secure the cargo for travel.

The Ranger Design 16-U0500 is a 60-inch rear roller with a published 240-pound loading capacity, rubber-padded feet, and adjustable height and tilt.

The feet require solid roof support. Contact us about suitable loading-assistance options for your rack before choosing a replacement.

Ratchet Tie Down Straps: Adjustable Cargo Restraint

Ranger Design’s 16-U0010 kit includes two polyester ratchet straps and hardware for mounting to compatible Cargo Rack cargo stops.

  • Strap dimensions: 1 inch wide by 9 feet long.
  • Published working load limit: 360 pounds.
  • Published break strength: 1,110 pounds.
  • Outdoor construction: UV-resistant plastics and stainless-steel components.

Cargo+ installations require the separate 16-U0015 bracket set. Confirm the mounting arrangement for your exact rack.

The working load limit is the relevant service rating. Break strength is not an allowable load, and two straps do not automatically double the permitted cargo weight.

Safe Clamps provide dedicated ladder retention on compatible rack systems.

Safe Clamp: Dedicated Ladder Retention

The Ranger Design 16-U1135 Safe Clamp system provides an alternative to straps for compatible ladder applications. It is supplied as a pair and uses a quarter-turn mechanism for quick operation.

Ranger Design identifies compatibility with Cargo, Cargo+, and Access Stow systems. The clamps can accommodate suitable step ladders and two- or three-section extension ladders, subject to the installation requirements.

The corrosion-resistant design suits exterior use, and its locking feature can help deter unauthorized ladder removal. It does not guarantee protection against theft.

Which Accessory Fits Your Needs?

Accessory Main Purpose Key Check
Rear Roller Bar Provides rolling support during loading. The pictured 16-U0500 is discontinued. Confirm an appropriate option for your rack and roof structure.
Ratchet Tie Down Straps Provide adjustable restraint for suitable cargo. Check mounting points, working load limits, and the additional brackets required for Cargo+.

Check Your Rack Before Adding Accessories

Have your rack model, vehicle details, and ladder dimensions ready when asking for fitment help. Photos of the crossbars and existing mounting points are useful if you are unsure which system you own.

Accessories do not increase the rack’s rated capacity or the vehicle’s roof-load limit. Include the weight of the rack, accessories, and cargo when checking the applicable limits.

Follow the installation instructions, inspect restraints before use, and check that the load is secured before driving.

Roof Rack Accessory FAQs

Does a rear roller secure a ladder during travel?

No. A roller assists with loading. Use the rack’s specified retention system or compatible restraints to secure the ladder before driving.

Will the 16-U0500 rear roller fit a Max Rack?

Ranger Design’s current guidance excludes Max Rack and Low Roof Max Rack installations. The roller is also discontinued. Contact us with your rack model for help checking suitable options.

Do the ratchet straps need extra brackets on a Cargo+ rack?

Yes. Ranger Design specifies the 16-U0015 Cargo+ bracket set for installing the 16-U0010 straps on a Cargo+ system.

What is the difference between working load limit and break strength?

The working load limit is the rated limit for normal service under the specified conditions. Break strength describes failure strength and must not be used as the allowable load.

Can Safe Clamps prevent ladder theft?

The locking feature can help deter unauthorized removal, but no clamp guarantees theft prevention. Use the locking system correctly and include it in your wider vehicle-security routine.

Can these accessories fit any ladder rack?

No. Compatibility depends on the accessory, rack family, crossbars, mounting hardware, and ladder. Check the exact combination before ordering or installing.
